The Paintings above are part of my Series, “Primal Visitations”, 2009

These paintings came about this summer as I was feeling a strong inclination to paint Masks particularly African Masks and at the time I understood why.  It was going hand in hand with my other need to wipe out certain outer influences I felt were crippling my expression in a way and the masks were for me, that vehicle through which I could use to get to a more raw primitive space within myself.

Each time the masks were painted over older paintings which were paintings I had finished but were not feeling connected to them.  It was almost as if they were calling out to me, ” Come over and fix me! I am not speaking enough, I am not holding enough within, you can leave me peaking through just a bit but go ahead now beyond the surface deeper within to really discover yourself and soar high!”

A couple more paintings are part of this series and will be added to website eventually with these.

This is an excellent series. I really like all the vibrant colors. I will return to your website again sometime.
