When I heard Kara Walker was going to be at the New Museum giving a talk exploring a chosen topic of current investigation in her own artistic practice a couple of weeks ago I grabbed a friend and ran.  Her strong, honest, bold and brave art has always interested me.  Her traditional practice of cutting out paper silhouettes depicting scenes of misogyny, racism, violence, her exploration of societal and cultural issues and her reference to slavery and race in America make her the  power house I am so inspired by.  I was so moved by her presentation and had  much to say after listening  but I found myself completely tongue tied.  One Friday evening per month, The New Museum will be inviting an artist or cultural thinker who will present on an idea in process-the hypothesis-as the seminar topic.  A really great idea and I just might have to go to every single one.

I just stumbled on your work. I really like the bold colors of your art and that you introduce others to who influences you. Thank you very much.
